Texas Two Step is a state lottery game offered in Texas, USA.

Many players are attracted to its cheap ticket cost, straightforward play and numerous prize tiers.

Since its launch, this has been a popular and consistent game that has steadily built a strong following.

In this guide, we’ll tell you what other features this game has and how you can buy Texas Two Step tickets online.

About Texas Two Step

Texas Two Step is a double-drum lotto game that was launched in 2001.

Since its launch, there have been no format changes. Though there are rumours that this may change, the game today is the same as it was that first draw.

Texas Two Step is run by the Texas Lottery, the state-run organisation that is also responsible for Lotto Texas.

Texas Lottery has been selling lottery tickets since 1992. It is operated by the Texas Lottery Commission.

In addition to funding lotto prizes, ticket sale proceeds contribute to state programs and other charitable causes.

Amazingly, Texas Lottery has generated over $28 billion to support education and veterans in the state.

Texas Two Step LogoTexas Two Step Draws

Texas Two Step is a bi-weekly game. Draws take place every Monday and Thursday at 10:12 p.m. CT.

Tickets cannot be purchased during the draw break between 10:02 to 10:15 p.m. CT.

During the draw, a total of five balls are randomly selected from two separate drums. Four main balls are taken from the white drum and one bonus ball from the other drum.

How to Play Texas Two Step

Texas Two Step is a very straightforward game. Players select four main numbers from a range from 1 through 35 and one bonus number from the same range.

One line only costs $1 USD when purchased within the US.

Any players who buy online lottery tickets from a third-party website may have to pay a little extra.

Texas Two Step Prizes and Odds

Texas Two Step has a total of seven prize tiers. For a game that only consists of four main numbers and one bonus number, that is a lot of tiers!

Players must match at least the bonus number in order to win a prize. The only matches that do not win a prize-other than zero-are one or two numbers without the bonus.

To win the jackpot, a player must match all main four numbers and the bonus number.

The only tiers that are unaffected by the bonus number are the second-highest and fourth-highest prizes.

Texas Two Step has a minimum jackpot of $200,000. Though that is nowhere close to bigger national games like US Powerball and Mega Millions, the game has other benefits.

If no one wins the jackpot, the prize rolls over. This means it can still grow to some impressive sizes, as there is no cap on the amount of rollovers.

The odds of winning the jackpot are pretty great at 1 in 1,832,600.

That is much better than the odds for US Powerball (1 in 292,201,338) and Mega Millions (1 in 302,575,350).

The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 32.

The prize and odds breakdown for each tier are as follows:

Claiming Texas Two Step Prizes

Texas Two Step prizes are awarded as lump-sum payments. This is the only game among Texas Lottery’s offerings that doesn’t have an annuity option.

Winners have 180 days from the draw date to claim their prize.

Lucky players who win over $5,000 will unfortunately be subject to federal taxes. Currently, the US federal government takes about 25% of the prize for residents and 30% for non-residents.

If you purchase tickets from popular lottery websites, you may also be subject to taxes from your home country.

Notable Texas Two Step Winners

Though the rolling jackpot starts low, there have been several lucky players who won over $2 million.

In fact, at the time of this writing, the jackpot once again sits at over $2 million.

The biggest win in Texas Two Step history took place in 2006, when a single winner won $2.9 million. Not bad for a $1 USD line!
